Former Athletic Director and St. Lawrence University wrestling coach, Clark returned to his alma mater to coach wrestling in 1970, quickly building the program to national prominence, including winning a national championship in 1988. He earned NCAA Division III Wrestling Coach of the Year honors in that year.

He served as director of athletics and also worked in University advancement before retiring to devote his time to White Pillars Bed and Breakfast and guest houses that he and his wife, Donna Reid Clark '69, operate not far from Canton. They are the parents of seven adult children, four of whom are SLU alumni.
