Cortland Wrestling Beats NYS Rival Oswego 45-0
from Adele Burk, Sports Information Director, Oswego
"An ailing Oswego State wrestling team was forced to forfeit four matches from the beginning, and was never able to recover against 20th-ranked Cortland in a 45-0 loss on Wednesday night in Cortland. The Red Dragons improved to 14-4-1 in dual competition, while the Lakers fell to 5-8 on the season.
In the night's tightest bout, Marc Collins trailed Jonathan Conroy 5-2 heading into the third period at 165 pounds. Collins selected a netural start, and recorded a takedown in the first minute. Conroy escaped from Collins' hold, but Collins registered another takedown with Conroy following up with another escape. Collins received a penalty point before the final horn sounded to tie the match at 7-7. However, Conroy earned the riding time point for an 8-7 win.
The Lakers look to bounce back at the Ursinus College Triangular, where Oswego State will also face NYU, on Saturday starting at 11 a.m."

Cornell Defeats No.15-Ranked Iowa State and NYS Rival Binghamton
Cornell's Big Reds came off the mat victorious twice last weekend, defeating Iowa State 30-16 and Binghamton University 35-3.
The performances of Kyle Dake (149 lbs.) and Steve Bosak (184 lbs.) stood out in particular as both of these grapplers pinned their respective opponents from Iowa State, Max Mayfield and Cole Shafer.

Another event worthy of mentioning was the dual between two New York State rivals, Cornell and Binghamton. The Big Reds gained the upper hand in this case also, defeating the Bearcats 35-3. The only victory for Binghamton came from No. 12-ranked Donnie Vinson (149 lbs.) who beat Kyle Dake (No.2-ranked) 5-3.

Three Cornell Wrestlers Take Southern Scuffle Titles
The wrestling program at Cornell has a lot to be proud of. It came off as the team co-champions at the Southern Scuffle last Thursday, December 30th . The tournament was held in Greensboro, North Carolina. The other winning team was Penn State.
Cornell met Penn State in the finals at 149 lbs, where Cornell’s returning national champion, Kyle Dake, defeated Penn State’s Frank Molinaro by a margin of one. The only point in the tightly-fought match came from an escape by Dake during the third period. Dake nearly scored a takedown early in the match, but after some impressive scrambling Molinaro managed to fend off the attack.
At 165, Cornell’s Justin Kerber faced Cody Yohn from Minnesota. The grappler from Cornell proved to be relentless, earning three points via an escape and takedown. Aftering choosing to start on bottom, Yohn scored an impressive escape to even the score to 3-3 at the end of the second period. In the third, Kerber kept battling and went on to score another escape and takedown. Yohn managed to escape one last time, but Kerber maintained his lead for the remainder of regulation and captured the title.
Cam Simaz (197), the last Cornell wrestler to represent Cornell in the finals, defeated Cayle Byers of George Mason. With each grappler scoring a takedown and two escapes, the score after regulation was tied at 4. An intense first sudden victory overtime period proved fruitless for both wrestlers. However, during the subsequent tiebreaker Simaz managed to escape and claim the championship.
Other major Southern Scuffle placers representing the Big Red included Steve Bosak (2nd place 184 lbs) and Mack Lewnes (3rd, 174 lbs)
